Arranging Suitcases

September 7 - 28 , 2012

Parse Gallery is pleased to announce "Arranging Suitcases," a solo exhibition by New Orleans-based artist Avery Lawrence. Lawrence's family history inspires the body of  work presented in this multi-media installation. In "Arranging Suitcases,"the story of his paternal grandparents informs a video-based performance that is physically demanding and ultimately surreal. The video will be on view in the gallery within an installation of complementary drawings, paintings, custom-designed wallpaper, and site-specific performances.

Avery Lawrence was born in Charlottesville, VA and holds a B.A. in Visual Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. His work has been exhibited in (e)merge art fair, SCOPE Miami (recipient of the SCOPE Foundation Award), Heiner Contemporary in Washington, D.C. and 1708 Gallery in Richmond, VA. He was recently selected as one of the “100 Under 100 Art Superstars of the South” by Oxford American magazine.
