"Practical Advice for The Practicing Artist: Unconventional Approaches to Art Criticism" is the seventh in a series of professional development workshops for New Orleans' artists organized by PARSE NOLA at Engine Room Art + Projects. Taylor Renee Aldridge and Jessica Lynne will be leading a discussion on readings by a range of critics offering up various approaches to critique. They will discuss how these nuanced approaches and perspectives may help expand our understandings of critique and ways of challenging the (art) worlds we exist in today.

This workshop will be divided into two parts to feature an opening discussion followed by a break and an in-class writing exercise.​

This event is FREE and open to the public. We'll be serving Gingeroo and light snacks.

Taylor Renee Aldridge is a Detroit based writer and independent curator. Her interests range from equity in the arts, to embodied performance and Black churchicality. In 2015 she co-founded ARTS.BLACK, a journal of art criticism from Black perspectives. Taylor has written for Art21, ARTNews, ContemporaryAnd, Detroit MetroTimes, SFMoMA’s Open Space, Parkett and Hyperallergic.

Jessica Lynne is a writer and art critic. Her writing has been featured in publications such as Aperture, Art in America, The Believer, BOMB Magazine, and elsewhere. She is co-founder and editor of ARTS.BLACK, a journal of art criticism from Black perspectives.
