The Loyola Untitled Juried Exhibition is a collaboration between the nonprofit art space PARSE and Loyola Untitled, a visual arts club at Loyola University New Orleans. Loyola Untitled organizes a group exhibition of work by undergraduate and graduate students from colleges and universities in New Orleans selected by a guest curator/juror. The exhibition is presented at PARSE’s gallery space in New Orleans’ Central Business District annually in the month of June. The first Loyola Untitled Juried Exhibition, “Awakening” (June 7 – 28, 2014) was juried by PARSE Co-Director, Amy Mackie. “About a Rock” (June 5 – 27, 2015), the second iteration of this ongoing partnership, was juried by Guest Curator Rachel Gugelberger, Associate Curator of No Longer Empty. Boshko Boskovic, Program Director of Residency Unlimited will jury the 2016 Loyola Untitled Juried Exhibition opening June 3 and running through June 26.
The guest curator/juror selects the work and conceives of a concept for the exhibition. The students, in dialogue with PARSE staff, are responsible for placing and installing the exhibition. This collaboration has given many young artists the opportunity to have their work reviewed by an established curator and to present their work in an exhibition outside of a university setting. It has yielded positive learning experiences for Loyola students in addition to well-received exhibitions. Both “Awakening” and “About a Rock” were attended by hundreds of visitors including students, their parents, and faculty, as well as local artists, curators, writers, and arts supporters.
